About Pratham
Pratham was founded in 1995, to provide pre-school education to children in Mumbai slums. Over the last 25 years Pratham has grown to be one o the largest non-profit organizations working to provide quality education to children and youth in over 20 states and union territories across the country, through a range of interventions.
Pratham is a widely recognized organization, having received notable awards such as the Lui Che Woo Prize, WISE Prize for Innovation, Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, the Henry R Kravis Prize in Leadership and the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year for Public Service. About the PraDigi Initiative
‘PraDigi’ is an initiative of ‘Pratham Education Foundation’, in which we have taken the next step of exploring how technology can improve learning. This vast repository of digital resources of over 8000+ videos, 500+ interactive games, audios, reading material, assessments, remote courses and 3+ learning applications is available on our open source platform, Pratham Open School.
Pratham’s digital content is created for three domains – Learning for school, Learning for life and Learning for work. There is something for everyone, from ages 3 to 18+. These resources are created to encourage groups and individuals to do activities and projects by themselves to induce non-linear learning.
Content is developed to provide Indian context. It is available in 14 Indian regional languages – Marathi, Hindi, Kannada, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil, Odia, Bangla, Assamese, Urdu, Khasi, Malayalam, Rabha (Rongdani), Punjabi and English. The complete repository is under a Creative Commons license and is available to users free of cost for non-commercial purposes.
Objectives of Translation
We aim to enhance and assure the quality of translations of the videos. It contains criteria developed to ensure the translations’ high quality, clarity, consistency, and coherence. We work with children and young adults from marginalized backgrounds. Context plays a crucial role in the review factor.
About the Role
We are looking for Translators, Subject experts and/or Language reviewers to support the translation and review of digital content in the following regional Indian languages:
- Marathi
- English
- Hindi
- Gujarati
- Kannada
- Odia
- Bangla
- Punjabi
- Tamil
- Telugu
- Urdu
- Malayalam
- Khasi
- Assamese
- Rabha (Rongdani)
The subjects are Science, English, Language, Math, Environment, Creative Arts, Health, Sport, Non-Vocational (21st-Century Skills), Inclusive Education and Vocational (Beauty, Housekeeping, F&B, Food Production, Welding, Auto 2W & 4W, Plumbing, DWFC, Electrical, Meson, Healthcare, etc)
This is a year-long project-based work.
Which skills are required to translate and review the material?
- Good command over your preferred regional language and/or respective subject.
- Strong reading comprehension skills and an eye for detail to ensure the quality of work and accuracy.
- Able to set the right tone, grammar, style and context of the content.
- Able to think critically about the content and provide constructive feedback.
- Good knowledge of MS Office tools.
Responsibilities of Translator
Translating different digital learning resources (videos, games, reading cards, remote course content, posters etc.) for varied age-groups on various subjects as per the domains of learning for school, work and life.
